Balancing the season's key voluminous top is Chanel Price
the narrow bottom. The idea is to achieve a long, leggy look with leggings,
tailored trousers, over-the-knee boots, dark skinny jeans or a pencil skirt.
This skinny bottom may sound scary, but is surprisingly wearable — simply layer
volume on top and balance the look with a well-grounded shoe or boot.“The pencil
skirt especially can fit on so many different body types,” Miller says.THE POWER
DECADESWith its attention to investment dressing, power pieces and the return of
the shoulder pad, Fall 2009 is clearly paying homage to two very strong fashion
decades: the 1940s and 1980s.“That whole '40s trend is quite important, that
really classy, '40s, almost Hollywood kind of look,” Augusti says.Basmaji calls
it “retro glam,” and it's notable in the season's tailored suits and jackets,
elegant scarves, slouchy trousers, pencil skirts, cinched waists and ropes of
pearls.“It's Chanel Price
definitely not a girly season,” Basmaji says. “Definitely feminine, but more
elegant and sophisticated.”“It's not sexy any more, it's glamour,” Miller says.
“It looks feminine. It looks strong and confident.”An even more important
influence is the '80s, which can be seen in the season's rocker-chick leathers
and denims, as well as all bold colours, opulent costume jewelry and the
quintessential collegiate look.“There's a big trend of the varsity look,” Neveu
says. “One of the looks that will be everywhere is the boyfriend jacket and the
boyfriend jean. Another trend we're doing big is the plaids, everything from
gingham check to buffalo plaid.”Just as the '80s had the beige power suit, this
season is awash in neutrals, especially grey and taupe Chanel Price
, but is also a powerhouse of the kinds of bold jewel tones we last saw 20-odd
years ago: teal, scarlet, peacock blue, mustard yellow and every shade of
purple.“Even though you might feel the pinch of the economy, you can feel
opulence through your colours, through your clothing,” Miller says.THE NEW
UNIFORMBefore we all became insta-trend victims, every woman had her “uniform,”
that essential outfit that could be dressed up or dressed down, ready to go from
work to dinner to nightclub to gala. Usually, the uniform was based on a suit,
and it made everyday dressing a snap. Now the uniform is back, but in a whole new
look Miller calls “structured classic with a twist.”“Everybody is going back to
the suit,” she says.“It's about sophisticated, classic dressing,” Miller adds.
“The major fall trend is tailoring. We want to do it elegant, Chanel Price
classic, tasteful.”Best of all, tailored pieces are figure-flattering no matter
your body shape or size, especially when it comes to the season's quintessential
jacket.“We've got different shapes in jackets,” Neveu says. “The dolman sleeves
are new and we're continuing with the trapeze jacket and the cropped
jacket.”Adding contrast to the tailored pieces of the modern uniform are the
season's lusciously textured pieces, such as soft leather jackets and skirts, as
well as garments in velvet, wool, tweed, silk and satin, not to mention the
season's essential knits.“Those are fabrics that are opulent, rich, understood,
coveted,” Miller says.“Texture is really happening,” says Neveu, who loves the
comfort of knits for her hard-to-fit customer. “There's a lot of cowl necks, big
huge cowl necks. And we've got the shrug, it's the perfect cover-up. Our
customer is not perfectly comfortable in a tank top or a halter top so she likes
to cover up a little bit. The layered look is what's Chanel Price
happening right now.”LUXURIOUS ACCENTSThe great thing about wardrobe basics like
the black suit or simple sheath dress is that they can change their personality
so easily, depending on the accessories they're paired with.“You have so many
different looks this season, that '40s glamour, that rocker-biker look, then the
bohemian embroidery and fringe. It seems like there's something for everybody,
even that romantic look with the ruffles and lace,” Augusti says.“Accessories
are a fabulous way to add a new look, a new vibe.”For instance, to create that
ladylike '40s glamour, you can add a string of pearls, a beautiful beret and a
sumptuous silk square. To create an '80s rocker look, you can slip into a
leather jacket, an over-the-knee boot and piles of chains. Or for an opulent,
individualistic style, you can have fun with sparkly costume jewelry from cuffs
to brooches to arty collars.“Because I want to show the opulence, I'm going to
wear bangles and jangle a little bit,” says Miller Chanel Price .
“Something that looks like gold, feels like gold, but isn't gold.”No matter what
look you're going for, you'll want a beautiful belt, worn over everything from
cardigans to coats to create a narrow, yet curvy, hourglass silhouette. Also
looking a lot sleeker is the season's key footwear: the stripped-down ankle boot
(worn with lean trousers), the over-the-knee boot (worn with tunics and
leggings), and the practical city pump, with a rounder, closed toe and a
mid-height heel (worn with the pencil skirt). But whatever accessories you
choose, make them lovely, personal and opulent in feel if not price. After all,
the biggest investment you can make is in something that makes you feel truly
beautiful Chanel Price
.
